Pre-project Testing and Field Testing
Testing is the important part of SURTREAT restoration and protection process. As the restoration involves chemical reaction between the SURTREAT materials and various types of substrates it is important to make sure that the desired effect is achieved without extraneous side effects such as discoloration or any other appearance change.
SURTREAT materials are designed to penetrate and react without change in appearance. However because of the variety of substrates composing statues and other structures, due caution should always be taken. It is prudent to apply SURTREAT to a small portion of the structure observing the effects after a few days' time.

Performance Testing
As described the deterioration of structures such as historical buildings and statuary is due largely chemical interaction and ingress of pollutants in liquid and gaseous form. To prevent the deterioration is to prohibit moisture and pollutants from penetrating while increasing strength and reducing reactivity.
Test results obtained by Raba Kistner Consultants, Inc. through a number of tests conducted during preservation project on structures composed of Texas limestone show that following the application of SURTREAT materials weight of water absorption is eliminated almost completely from 12.7 grams to 0.3 grams, chemical reactivity reduced from "vigorous" to "very slight", hardness and durability is improved from 2 to 4 on the MOH 0-8 scale where 0 equals TALC and 8 equals diamond. The information in the report is project specific. Please contact us for more information regarding a particular situation, case or condition.
